Birth is an ancient wisdom and women are her keepers .

Theresa Hurst, Midwife

Owner of Doula Vita®, labor, delivery and postpartum doula, childbirth education instructor, and SW Wisconsin Tech CPM Midwife Graduate, (anticipated Michigan and Minnesota liscensure coming Fall 2026).

My calling to serve mothers began in 2009, through my own initiation to motherhood. Like so many women, the idea of pushing a human being through my body overwhelmed me. Divinely aligned, my NMC roommate was an aspiring natural birth doula. At the time, I had no idea what that was, but she blessed my life with ideas I had never heard of; waterbirth, how to spin a baby, peanut balls, prenatal yoga, rebozos and painless, orgasmic birth. These ideas landed with curiosity and ease in my body. The more I learned, the less fearful I became and the more empowered I felt. Knowledge truly is power.

Just one year after birthing my daughter, a healing right-of-passage into motherhod, I supported my sister’s first pregnancy and birth in 2010. I found myself kneeling with her, in deep spiritual connection and support. After many long hours of compassion and presence, her moment of delivery came. Both of us crouched together in my bath tub, that night I was baptized into midwifery, catching her sweet little water-birth baby. It was in these holy, sacred moments that I realized my life’s calling. What an honor.

I proceeded to birth all three of my home-water-birth babies, nurturing my little family through our tender years. During that time, I guided my friends and neighbors through their birth journeys, as a CAPPA trained community doula, often showing up with a basket of breads, soups, healing oils and herbs. From Feb ‘25 to Mar ‘26, I was blessed with the opportunity to formally train alongside 20 diverse, incredible midwives at Twin Cities Birth Center in beautiful Minniapolis MN. What a transformative year!

In May of 2026, after 4 years of midwifery school, dedication to mothers, and welcoming over 100 precious souls into this world, I graduated from SWTC Midwifery program as a CPM midwife. I am currently preparing for Liscensure in Michigan and Minnesota, and will soon be opening a private practice, supporting women in all seasons of their lives ~ stay tuned!

Currently, I am partnered with Traverse City Midwife Katy Hobbs, LM CPM of North Country Midwifery, as I prepare for liscensure. Back in the mitten, playing my garden, splashing in the great lakes with my children, encapsulating placentas and welcoming sweet miracle babies. Incredibly greatful to be here, guiding and serving the mothers of Northern Michigan.
